How to Stage an Intervention for a Loved One

Did you know that 21 million Americans suffer from addiction? Yet, not nearly enough of them get the treatment that they need.

If you know someone that is suffering from drug addiction, alcohol addiction, and more, then you probably want to figure out the best way to help that person.

Well, one way to get started down that path is to stage an intervention.

What is an intervention? How do you stage the best one possible? This is your guide.

What Is an Intervention?

An intervention is a gathering of the person’s family, closest friends, and sometimes a professional interventionist who is suffering from an addiction. From there, those family members and friends will tell the person how their addiction is affecting them and how they feel about that person.

Then, it is up to the person who is dealing with this addiction to accept what their loved ones are saying. If they do, they can go to an addiction facility such as the one here.

How to Stage an Intervention

So, now that you know what an intervention is, it is time to start planning to stage one. The first thing that would need to happen is that one loved one needs to lead the charge. That loved one can talk to others close to the person and get an idea of who should be at this intervention.

Once you decide who is going to be there and if you should hire an interventionist, you need to figure out a date, time, and location to have this intervention. You would also have to come up with a reason for the person in question to show up.

After that, each loved one needs to prepare a statement for the person they wish to express their feelings to. This should be how their behavior has affected them and how their view of that person has changed due to the addiction.

Besides coming up with statements, the loved ones need to be prepared to address these and any other retort in a calm and organized matter. You should avoid getting angry and confrontational with the person at all costs.

Then, once all the statements are read to the person, you will have to determine if that person is willing to engage with you. If so, then present a plan on how they can get help for their addiction. This would typically involve having a rehab center or addiction facility ready to go for the person.

However, if they refuse the offer or leave the intervention before it is done, you will have to make the effort to try to do this all over again with a different setup.
